Naveen Kumar Gowda, born on 8 January 1986, better known as Yash, works primarily in Kannada films and has won 3 Filmfare Awards and 2 SIMA Awards.
Yash who started his career with television in 2000 then made his movie debut in 2007 with the movie Jambada Hudugi. He then did a romantic drama Mogina Manasu for which he received the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. He made his film debut as a hero with the movie Rocky.
Yash became famous in the country after KGF Chapter 1 and KGF Chapter 2. This movie became so famous that it became the highest grossing movie of Kannada industry and joined the 1000 crore club of India. Despite his great success, his father still drives a bus.
The beginning of Yash’s career-
Yash’s father Arun Kumar Gowda was a driver in Karnataka State Road Transport and later also in Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation. Yash had a passion to become an actor since childhood. He always participated in his school’s theatre and dance. He wanted to leave school after 10th so that he could make a career in acting. But due to his parents’ insistence, he completed 12th as well. At the age of 16, his parents allowed him to work as an assistant director in a film in Bangalore and also told him that if he came back, he would not be allowed to go again.
But the project was cancelled two days before it was to start. But Yash stayed in Bangalore. He told that at this time I had only 300 rupees. After this he joined a drama troupe and then became a backup actor in 2004 in which he played the role of Balram. While working he completed his Bachelor of Arts from KLE College. Then in 2004 itself he got a chance to work in the TV serial Nanda Gokula. He kept getting work on TV. After this his parents also moved to Bangalore.
Film Debut-
Yash started his film career in 2007 with Priya Haasan’s movie Jambada Hudugi in which he played a supporting role. After this he worked in Shashank’s next movie Mogina Manasu. Then he became Shashank’s first choice. While working with Shashank, he fractured his leg and then he took rest for 6 months. After this he played the main role in Rocky movie in 2008. After this he worked in a romantic comedy movie Modalasala in 2010.
Yash’s luck shone when he worked with Prashanth Neel. He played the hero in KGF Chapter 1, directed by Prashanth Neel. This film was released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. This film was made in 80 crores and this movie was the most expensive budget movie of Kannada industry at that time.
After the huge success of KGF Chapter 1, Yash started being known as Rocky in India. After this Prashanth decided to make KGF Chapter 2. The craze of this movie was very high among the people. When the teaser of KGF Chapter 2 was uploaded on YouTube, it became the most watched teaser and when this movie was released, people liked this movie very much and this movie collected 1250 crores rupees worldwide. This movie made Yash very famous in India. After this, he started being called Rocking Star.
